My whole Siem Reap stay I was accompanied by a Chile traveler, stopping over in SE Asia for a while on her way home from Australia, who I got to know in the shared taxi. It was very handy as we could share the expences like tuk-tuk tour service as well as exchange impressions.
On Thursday, our arrival day, we did not go for the Angkor Wat sunset as were too tired, just explored the town a bit. Friday was my great day. What I did not manage to put into reality seven years ago now finally became true. We took the small circuit tour and saw most of the top temples of Angkor, including Angkor Wat. It was also possible to rent a bike, but the distances are in kilometres and with rain threatening you all the time a tuk-tuk was the obvious choice. Of course it had to be raining at Angkor Wat. Ruins sightseeing is cursed for me. Luckily the sky became clear soon. Probably the most impressive was the Bayon, a part of Angkor Thom's compound. 
There were many children, but also adults nearby every temple, waiting for their prey to which they could sell their goods, usually books, drinks, bracelets etc. Their most frequent phrase was "one dollar". Everything was for $1. Their selling was moreless resembling begging as they would multiply the amount of goods for the same price just to get out of you at least $1. In the evening we took a 90 mins boat trip to see sunset at a floating village in Tonle Sap lake, hosting the biggest diversity of fish species in the world. Back in Siem Reap we had a good dinner at one of the local cart vendors located just one block off the bar street.
On Saturday we had a really busy day. We started off at 5am so to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat. Inspite of large number of sunrise hunters it was really a touching moment. After that we did a grand circuit, viewing the temples around Angkor Thom. We also managed to see more distant ruins, Banteay Srei and Roluos grop, each of them being a little disappointment. In the evening we closed our tour in the ruins of over 800 years old temples by seeing the sunset over Angkor Wat.
I have to admit that temples of Angkor did not impress me that much. Probably after seeing Ayuthaya and Sukhothai my expectations were too high. Anyway, it is the most stunning ruin complex I have even seen and this 8th wonder of the world should not be missing in a must-see SE Asia traveler's list.
